Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he could understand Donald Trump’s approach to resolving the Russo-Ukrainian war only after meeting the U.S. President-elect face-to-face, Zelenskyy said on Nov. 15.
Zelenskyy made the remarks while speaking to students and faculty staff of Columbian universities. He said he’s “uncertain” how U.S. policy might change after Trump is sworn in on Jan. 20.
“I don’t want to lie to you; therefore, I can honestly say that I will understand President Trump’s position only after we have a detailed discussion during a comprehensive meeting, which can be done, and I’m not sure this can be done properly before he is in the White House,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, after the inauguration, Trump will have full legitimacy to engage in international diplomacy.
Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that “constructive interaction” has developed between him and future U.S. President Trump, as the Ukrainian side was able to present its vision for peace convincingly.
