From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 999 – 3925 days since the occupation of Crimea)
The Lord reigns;
let the peoples tremble!
He sits enthroned upon the cherubim;
let the earth quake!
Psalm 99:1
The past few days are meant to break us – massive missile and drone attack, return of blackouts, a strike on residential quarters in Sumy last night (12 killed), and a similar strike of ballistic missile on residential areas in Odesa today (10 killed, 55 injured). The pictures from Odesa are brutal, with bodies just lying in the streets. They do it to throw us into terror and despair. Will they succeed? Each cruel attack deepens our scars and strengthens our resolve to resist because we can’t give in to such an enemy.
You may have noticed that I started adding the number of days since the beginning of Russian aggression in 2014. It helped me put things into perspective, so the “1,000 days of full-scale war” no longer seems so devastating.
However, I encourage you to find ways to put this sad “anniversary” to good use – advocate for Ukraine, raise awareness among your neighbors, reach out to your political representative, put out a Ukrainian flag, or show solidarity to encourage those still fighting.
I was reminded of these words from a song:
When your enemy presses in hard, do not fear
The battle belongs to the Lord
Take courage, my friend, your redemption is near
The battle belongs to the Lord.
He is the Lord of Hosts. To Him belongs salvation and victory. Let us stand firmly in His promises.
