Russian dictator Vladimir Putin attempted to project strength with an Oreshnik missile strike on Ukraine, but ultimately revealed his desperation, military columnist Julian Röpke of Bild said on Nov. 22.
“What seems like a show of force by the Kremlin is actually a sign of desperation,” Bild analyst Julian Röpke writes.
He notes that while Russia has hundreds of weapons systems capable of targeting Dnipro, the Kremlin instead launched an experimental missile from Astrakhan, 1,000 kilometers away. Röpke believes Putin’s real goal is to instill fear and halt Western military aid to Ukraine.
However, he argues that this “cynical calculation” will fail, and Ukraine’s allies should respond with increased support.
