12/3/2024 — I love how God always finds a way to teach me a lesson while I am teaching my students.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1013)

For the righteous will never be moved;
he will be remembered forever.
He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
Psalm 112:6-7

It is hard not to be afraid of bad news. That could be one of the reasons why my posts here are not as frequent. It is easier to occupy yourself with things at hand rather than check the news, read all the speculations, debate different opinions, or try to guess the outcome of various decisions.

Every evening, we set up a mattress in our apartment corridor, and our son goes to “bed” there not to move at night. Our rooms are mainly used during the day, and I long for the day when they’ll be fully functional again. Yet every night, we thank for this warm place and our mattresses because at least we can be home.

This week, my students will meditate on the verse from Isaiah 12:2 (NIRV), “God, you are the one who saves us. We will trust in you. Then we won’t be afraid. Lord, you are the one who gives us strength.” I liked this translation because, as my students pointed out today, it helps us focus on God, His strength, and saving grace. The emphasis is on Him, and when we keep our eyes on Him, we won’t be afraid.
I love how God always finds a way to teach me a lesson while I am teaching my students.
