Eighteen-year-old Oleksandr Yakushenko, forcibly taken from a foster home near Kherson to Russia in 2022, died by suicide while living with an adoptive family in Krasnodar Krai, Russian outlet Vazhnyye Istorii wrote on Dec. 24.
Oleksandr’s tragic death went unreported by local authorities or media. His adoptive father, Aleksandr Lukashenko, told reporters that the teenager was found hanging a few kilometers from their home, his smartphone disassembled and wiped of all data.
“I have no idea why,” Lukashenko said indifferently.
“He was 18, a grown-up kid. He just lived with us, that’s all.”
However, a voice message Oleksandr sent to his friends shortly before his death painted a different picture.
“No one here gives a damn about me,”he said.
“They made that clear. I ruin everyone’s lives. I can’t do this anymore. I’ll hang myself… If I weren’t here, no one would have any problems.”
