12/28/2024 — “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life…”

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1038)

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and your right hand delivers me.
Psalm 138:7

The childlike hope for a Christmas miracle excites anticipation yet brings disappointment when things don’t go as planned. I have to remind myself that I am not God, and His ways are not my ways. I need to let God be God and exercise His sovereign will.

I have seen several news reports about North Korean soldiers. Many of them are killed in action, blindly following the orders of Russian commanders (which is the result of years of brainwashing and totalitarianism). There are reports of Korean soldiers committing suicide or killing their wounded pals to avoid being captured by Ukrainian soldiers. There was a note found on one of the Korean soldiers with an instruction to “die with honor.” Some think they’re doing this also to protect their families back home from persecution (which is what the Soviet government did during WWII when Soviet soldiers were taken captive by the Nazis). If wickedness is not stopped, it spreads and consumes more and more nations.

You may have heard of the Russian air defense system shooting down an Azerbaijan passenger aircraft over Grozny (Chechnya) on December 25. Or the damage to the underwater electricity cable connecting Finland and Estonia (about a month ago, underwater data cables between Finland and Germany, Lithuania and Sweden, and Sweden and Finland were severed). Or reports of Estonian police on a significant rise in border security incidents, including staged anti-Western protests, smuggling attempts involving weapon parts, GPS spoofing, efforts to push waves of migrants across the border, and provocative aircraft maneuvers. Does it still feel like a “Ukrainian conflict”?

We keep praying for our enemy to fall weak and stop being a threat to Ukraine or any other nation in the world because no one is safe as long as this insane bully feels like they can terrorize the world.
