12/30/2024 — Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked;do not further their evil plot

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1040)

Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked;
do not further their evil plot, or they will be exalted!
Psalm 140:8

There are many speculations about possible negotiations. As 2025 approaches, experts are trying to draw conclusions and make prognoses for the future. It’s hard for me to think about it, especially since one may get hopeful for a speedy resolution, but reality tells us that it’s highly unlikely.

As I was trying to find words for my post, I came across the poem of Vasyl Stus, a Ukrainian poet and dissident killed by the Soviet regime. I haven’t seen this poem before, or at least I don’t remember it. However, it feels very appropriate in light of possible negotiations:

“Enough blood,” my executioner proclaimed,
having driven a knife between my ribs until it came out through my back.
And I thought, grimacing in pain,
“What if he wants to treat me as well?”
