1/5/2025 — “…but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.”

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1046)

The Lord watches over the sojourners;
he upholds the widow and the fatherless,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
Psalm 146:9

The last few days have been emotionally draining. Yesterday, we attended the opening ceremony for the memorial to the fallen soldiers in my grandma’s village. Keeping memory alive is vital, especially when it comes to the memory of those who gave their lives defending us. Thinking about these heroes and hearing bits of their stories made me think of thousands of other fallen soldiers. And about those who are missing, with their loved ones not knowing what happened to them yet hoping and praying for a miracle.

Yesterday morning, we read about the drone attack on Kyiv region. I skimmed over the news, noticing a one-liner about a truck driver being killed by the fragments of a downed drone. Soon, we found out it was someone we knew. Not a close friend, a neighbor’s kid I hadn’t seen for a while, yet this news hit hard and brought the war even closer.

This thought may seem morbid, but I thought that war felt similar to the battleship game. At first, you feel rather confident because the playing field is big, but as it narrows down, the blows come closer and closer. These past several months brought many losses to some very dear people.

Lord, do not delay and bring the wicked to ruin.

  1. Praying for your loss. May the prayers of the saints around the world lift some of the many burdens your people carry.
