Ruzzian propaganda keeps pushing this narrative that it started the war against Ukraine because of NATO expansion. The reality is that Ukraine had not been invited to join NATO, had not been promised it would join NATO and prior to ruzzian invasion that started in 2014 Ukraine had not been showing interest in joining NATO.
It’s ruzzian military aggression that is pushing us to seek security that could be provided by NATO.
Meanwhile, because of ruzzian invasion in Ukraine, Finland and Sweden joined NATO without any problems in the past 2 years even though it expanded NATO/ruzzian border significantly.
Conclusion: ruzzia is only using NATO expansion as one of their excuses for starting the invasion. True purpose of ruzzia is erase Ukraine as a country.

In reality, Russia has bordered NATO for decades:
1949: Norway
1999: Poland
2004: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
2023: Finland
Throughout this whole period, Russia’s shared borders with NATO have remained stable and peaceful. Putin knows perfectly well that NATO does not pose a security threat to Russia, as can be seen from his readiness to demilitarize Russia’s NATO borders since 2022. The current war was never about legitimate Russian security concerns. Instead, the entire NATO narrative is a convenient excuse to justify the colonial conquest of Ukraine
