Russian authorities have declared a state of emergency in Engels, Saratov Oblast, struggling to put out the fire at a nearby fuel depot after a Ukrainian drone strike on Jan. 8.
The facility was attacked early in the morning, and the fire has been raging for more than 14 hours.
Saratov regional governor Roman Busargin reported that two first responders died while attempting to extinguish the fire, and one was hospitalized.
Earlier, Russian Telegram channel Astra noted that the fire at the fuel depot appears to have grown in magnitude and continues to spread. Local Telegram channels describe a massive smoke plume covering half the city and report audible explosions.
