Russia has killed 67 Ukrainian clergy members and damaged over 630 religious sites since the start of its full-scale invasion, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said during a briefing on Jan. 10.
Russian strikes have destroyed or damaged more than 630 places of worship and religious sites in Ukraine, including churches, mosques, synagogues, and prayer houses.
On temporarily occupied territories, Russian occupation authorities have implemented mass repressive practices against all religious organizations not affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate church.
Russia banned the activities of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on the occupied territories on Dec. 26, 2022.
“This was accompanied by the forced deportation of clergy,” said the spokesman.
“Other organizations were also banned, including those engaged in social service and humanitarian support in international territories. These are organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and the Caritas charity foundation.”
