1/11/2025 — A Perspective on Snow

From: Maia Mikhaluk in Kyiv (1052nd day)

We have many friends on the East Coast of the USA, so my FB news feed is filled with snow photos. Friends in Atlanta seem to be especially excited about this rare phenomenon and we are happy for them.

In the past Ukraine would have snow on the ground not melting from the end of Nov till beginning of March. If we didn’t have snow for Christmas and New Year we would be very disappointed.

But during these years of war everybody is wishing and hoping for a warmer winter and no snow. So far our winter has been mild and we only had a few days when snow stayed on the ground. Of course, kids would love to play snowballs and ride sleds, but dry and warmer weather is better for our defenders on the front lines and there is less probability for extended blackouts. We will wish for snow when the war is over, but for now, we are grateful the snow is in Atlanta, not in Ukraine.
