The years of war find their poignant expressions in different art forms, photography, literature, music, and theater. I remember that, in my childhood, so many of our literature and history classes were about World War II. We thought we were a generation lucky to live in the days of peace. But it seems since World War I there has been no generation of Ukrainians that lived their whole lives in peace. My grandfather was a soldier in WWII, my father lived his last years of life in this new war that ruzzians started against us. Of course, now our generation, generations of our kids and grandkids are also having the first-hand experience of living in times of war. I think it was Hobbes who said that war is a more natural state for humans than peace. It’s hard to accept that, but the way the world looks like right now it seems to prove the theory.
It’s good that all forms of art are capturing these years of war as a reminder for future generations about the price paid for freedom and as a warning to not trust our northeastern neighbor.
