The executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump to suspend international aid for 90 days does not apply to military assistance for Ukraine, according to Oleksandr Kovalenko, director of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation.

“This is about other things,” Kovalenko wrote.

On Jan. 20, Trump signed an order suspending all U.S. foreign aid programs for 90 days to assess their alignment with national interests and foreign policy goals. At the time, it was unclear how much aid would be affected, as Congress had already allocated funding for many programs.

On Dec. 30, 2024, the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden announced a military aid package for Ukraine worth nearly $2.5 billion.

The package includes resources for immediate use on the front lines and long-term deliveries of air defense systems, artillery, and other critical weaponry. According to Biden, the aid comprises $1.25 billion for Ukraine’s Armed Forces and $1.22 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).
