2/3/2025 — “O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame…”

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1075)

O my God, in you I trust;
let me not be put to shame;
let not my enemies exult over me.
Psalm 25:2

I tried writing an update a few days in a row, but it was so hard to find something to share. Russia keeps working its evil schemes, deceiving people and ruining connections. This wickedness has already spread far beyond Ukraine, seeing how it can go unpunished while people pretend not to notice it.

The news breaks my heart. Just in the past few days, there was a ballistic missile strike on the historic downtown part of Odesa and strikes on residential buildings in Sumy and Poltava. Today, I read how a Russian drone attacked a bus in Kherson by throwing a bomb into the ventilation window on the roof. They also intentionally launched a missile at their own people in the Kursk region while those were getting ready for evacuation. What can I say about it? What is there to be said?

That’s why I didn’t write anything and focused on getting ready for (and recovering from) a special sleepover party for our elementary school girls. Watching them have fun and enjoy life, making memories that would last a lifetime – these are the things that make sense when the rest of the world doesn’t. The girls made small gifts to be passed on to the wounded soldiers in the hospital, and they attached small notes. One of them reads, “I am 9 years old, and my favorite color is red. You chose to defend me, and thanks to you, I can enjoy life.” What can I add to that?
