2/6/2025 — US companies producing 64% of components in Russian weapons

From: Euromaiden Press — “The evidence from the Ukrainian battlefield suggests that the post-Cold War pax technica is over” — Olena Tregub of NAKO and Marc R. DeVore of University of St Andrews on eroding export controls

Their research reveals a troubling shift: While Cold War-era restrictions successfully prevented the Soviet Union from accessing critical Western electronics, modern efforts are failing to stop tech transfers to Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

Examining debris from hostile states’ missiles, they found extensive use of Western parts — with American companies alone producing 64% of components in Russian weapons. Switzerland ranks as the second-largest supplier, with parts found in nearly all analyzed systems.

The researchers identify three critical failures of modern controls:

🔷 No centralized organization coordinating sanctions
🔷 Weak consequences for companies failing due diligence
🔷 Limited accountability for nations enabling evasion

Strengthening the sanctions regime will require political will to rebuild enforcement frameworks and close gaps between different nations’ controls. The stakes for global security could not be higher: https://euromaidanpress.com/2025/02/05/post-cold-war-pax-technica-is-over-western-tech-flows-to-hostile-states-fp/
