Viking has been serving with Ukraine’s International Legion for the past two years, after arriving in Ukraine in 2022. He’s a drone specialist – a breed of warrior that Ukraine has come to heavily rely on in an increasingly mechanized and industrialized war. And despite the battles he’s been a part of, and injuries he sustained, he plans to stay and fight until Ukraine wins – or “as long he keeps breathing”.
The International Legion, in conjunction with NV, recently had a chance to sit down and speak with this Swedish volunteer. The first question posed: Why is he here? What could convince someone to leave their comfortable life in the West for one full of drones, artillery, and trenches?
“For me, it was natural because the two branches of my family equally hate the Russians because of the war in Spain during the Franco period and because of the war in Finland,” Viking told the Legion.
