I was reading to my son tonight. It is a children’s book written a few years before the full-scale invasion. The story is about a city being raided by seemingly invincible mutant rats. As the main characters see their city destroyed and uninhabitable (it gave me chills reading about it as too many real Ukrainian cities came to mind), that’s how it’s described, “It all happened because of the mutant rats. Not living creatures but merciless, thoughtless machines programmed for destruction. No one will ever be able to change them – they will always be who they are. Yet it is not hopeless for there are still those ready to resist this looming danger.”
This children’s book felt too real.
It came up in the comments to my previous post, so I thought I’d address it here. Many people wonder what russia’s ultimate plan may be in this war. That’s why the world leaders think they can settle this war by giving them what they want. However, this war is not about the territories, Crimea, the Black Sea, Ukraine’s minerals, NATO, or anything else a reasonable person might think of. This war is of a genocidal nature, which means they want the ultimate destruction of Ukraine and the elimination of anything Ukrainian. That’s what we see in the occupied territories. That was evident in their preparation for this invasion (even though we refused to believe it). That’s why they attack our nuclear power plants. That’s why they ruin our infrastructure and cities away from the frontline. They have no intention of taking over and making use of the resources. No. They want to get rid of us. That’s why when well-meaning people tell us that appeasement and negotiations are a solution to the deaths of thousands of Ukrainians we know that it’s not true. It will only postpone another round of this torture. That’s why the choice we have is to risk dying and have a chance to live as we keep fighting or give up and be eliminated for sure. That’s what it comes down to.
We know that every new day is God’s miracle. No one expected Ukraine to resist for more than a couple of hours or days. These 1089 days were given to us by God, and we know He’s going to be with us all the days that are to come. He is our victorious King who will come in power to comfort us and restore justice. May we remain faithful until then.
