From: Maia Mikhaluk in Kyiv (1093rd day)
The last few days have been very tough. I can’t accurately describe this mix of feelings of disbelief, frustration, sadness, helplessness, sorrow, anger and more. It’s so much like what we felt during the first days of the invasion! I reread my post on March 5,2022 and felt a strong sense of dejavu:
“Day 10 of war. We are still alive.
We read in western media that US officials said that Ukrainians put up an admirable fight, but they don’t believe we will be able to stand till the end of the week. Ok. We have today and tomorrow to prove them wrong! I think they are underestimating Ukrainians and they do not take God into account but we do. This is what the LORD says to you: `Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. (2 Chronicles 20:16)”
On Feb 24, 2022 putin invaded our land intending to take it over in 3 days. Well, three years later we hear again, now from our allies, that putin’s army is impossible to defeat even with help of Western allies. Too bad our friends don’t believe in their own strength! I guess they have the luxury to try to play with tactics of appeasing aggressor. We don’t have that luxury because we saw what ruzzians did and are doing on occupied territories. Partial surrender of our land now with no guarantees that after 2 -3 years putin will not come to finish us is not an option for us. Despite what our allies claim about undefeatable ruzzian army, they have suffered a lot of losses on the battlefield and from sanctions. Putin wants a break. Giving him a break while rewarding him with everything he demands is a path to a bigger war in a relatively short term.
Now it’s not only Ukraine that is in danger. Putin is getting enabled and encouraged by these “peace negotiations”. One doesn’t have to be a prophet to know who will be attacked next if putin gets Ukraine. Just look where the USA will be withdrawing troops from in Europe after putin finishes his list of demands.
We are grateful to friends who care and have been praying for us these past three years and who are not inclined to change in their memory the basic facts of who and how started this war, what war crimes were committed by ruzzian invaders in front of the eyes of the whole world, the rape, the torture of civilians, kidnapping of children, how some of our cities were leveled to the ground. Please don’t stop praying now! And if you want to do more, please get in touch with your representatives, let them know that people in the USA still care about Ukraine.
I will attach in the first comment a letter that our friend Paul Linscott wrote to his representatives. And this is Paul’s FB post:
“Something we should never take for granted is the ability to speak up and be heard. In addition to speaking to facebook land about Ukraine, in light of very troubling public messaging coming from the U.S. White House this past week, I have felt the need to contact my Missouri Congressman and Senators and ask for their compassionate and firm advocacy for Ukraine. I wrote up some notes that are on my mind into a letter and shared them over the phone with the secretaries of these offices, who promised to pass them along. I want to share them here as well as the links where you can find your representatives should you choose to do the same. Feel free to reword my letter or write your own altogether, you may not agree with all of my bullet points, so make your own as needed. But if you care about what appears to be the U.S. abandonment of Ukraine’s defense, justice, peace and survival against the world’s most well-funded, politically powerful, terrorist organization and if you care about the impactful role that the U.S. is having right now on the lives of Ukrainian people and the course of global freedom and stability, then please do contact your representatives and let them know why this matters to you and what you are advocating for. This opportunity is an undervalued aspect of living in a representative democracy, which is not available in many places. Let’s not take it for granted. We are not guaranteed tomorrow.
