The events in Washington on Feb. 28 marked an unprecedented episode in global politics. After a heated confrontation in the Oval Office between U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian delegation was expelled from the White House. This was not just a diplomatic incident—it will have serious consequences for the Russo-Ukrainian war and the global geopolitical balance. Moreover, the chances of active hostilities ending in 2025 have significantly decreased.

This situation was clearly orchestrated by Trump’s team. After making his bold campaign promise to “end the war in 24 hours,” he attempted to change the course of the war through diplomacy. He held a call with Putin and organized meetings between U.S. and Russian delegations in Riyadh and Türkiye.

However, these talks yielded no results. Moscow made it clear that it was unwilling to make any serious concessions. Its strategy remains unchanged: prolonging the war, destabilizing Ukraine through elections and demobilization, and waiting for the right moment to impose its conditions.
