From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1113)
But those who seek to destroy my life
shall go down into the depths of the earth;
they shall be given over to the power of the sword;
they shall be a portion for jackals.
Psalm 63:9-10
Every night, I face a dilemma – should I sleep in my bed or on the rollaway mattress far away from the windows? “Luckily,” the air raids mostly follow their schedule, and we usually get one before midnight so I can peacefully go to sleep on the mattress in the hallway. However, oddities happen, and then you are lost. Do I go to bed now? Or should I wait for the air raid? And where should I go to sleep? It’s ridiculous, yet this is our reality, and last night was no different.
However, it is the month of March, which means Reading Month for our school. Throughout this month, our students are challenged to go screen-free and read at least an hour a day to fundraize for Ukraine. And I must tell you I’m so proud of my 4th-graders! They all meet or exceed their goals! And that’s because they’re excited and dedicated to helping their country! For every 10 minutes of their reading, we hope to raise $1 for a Ukrainian Christian volunteer organization UA.Ants Українські Мурахи that provides humanitarian aid and respite to internally displaced refugees who have lost their homes, families who have lost husbands and fathers, injured soldiers, and military units at the front lines.
And here’s exciting news. You can help our kids support our country and care for others by sponsoring one of them. If every one of our kids meets the challenge and we find enough sponsors, we should be able to raise over $16,000 to help our country continue to exist and care for one another!
My son loves to read (honestly, I remember what a huge blessing it was during the first weeks of the full-scale war when his books were his safe haven), and our Reading Month gives him a perfect excuse to stall at bedtime and spend every free minute with a book.
