Russia has proposed ceasefire demands that reflect its wartime objectives, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on March 17 ahead of a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
Kallas noted that Ukraine was among the key topics on the agenda.
“We truly welcome the negotiations in Jeddah and their outcome. Now we need to see Russia’s next move and what conditions they propose. The big question is whether they really want peace,” Kallas said.
According to her, the conditions set by Russia for a ceasefire suggest that Moscow is not genuinely seeking peace.
“They are pushing for the very conditions they aim to achieve through war,” Kallas emphasized.
She added that other topics on the agenda would include the Middle East and developments in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha thanked Kallas for inviting him to the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
