For over three years now, residential areas, schools, hospitals, shopping centers and places of worship across Ukraine have been under near-daily bombardment. Imagine the horror of 9/11 happening not once, but every single day—and the world becoming increasingly numb to it.
Terror has a name when it strikes once. After a single attack, the world rightly labeled Bin Laden a terrorist. But after thousands of strikes, after children and parents have been buried beneath rubble, some still call Putin a “leader,” “protector of Christian values” “good friend”, “good guy”, even a “peacemaker.”
But every day/night, Ukraine continues to be a target of 150-250 drones. As I write this, another air raid started, signaling the start of another night filled with attacks. Yesterday, there was a massive drone attack on Kyiv. In what was meant to be a safe haven in Kyiv, an internally displaced family who had already fled violence from the Zaporizhzhia region thought they had finally found peace. They were welcomed by a local church community that offered shelter and warmth—the church bears the name Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.”
That sense of refuge was shattered when a Russian kamikaze drone targeted the church grounds. A five-year-old girl, Nicole, full of life and joy, was killed alongside her father. Her mother, an active member of the church community who cared for children and sang in a church choir, is now in the hospital—grieving, wounded, and fighting to survive.
We don’t know that family personally. But we know this: their lives mattered. Their faith mattered. And the One who is truly called Emmanuel—God with us—was with them, and still is.
What missiles aim to destroy, God’s presence restores. No drone can erase the hope He planted in the hearts of those who trust in Him. But let’s be clear: this is terrorism, day after day. And justice delayed only empowers evil.
