Russia plans to resolve the “Ukrainian issue” by 2026, as otherwise it will hinder its ability to catch up with the United States and China, said deputy head of Ukraine’s Military Intelligence Directorate (HUR), Vadym Skibitskyi, during the March 25 discussion on New Contours of European Security.
Russia has developed 15 potential scenarios of military conflicts through 2045, six of which involve northern Europe.
“Northern Europe understands it, the Baltic states understand it. Poland understands. There are at least four scenarios of possible military conflict in Poland. Poland now understands that this is an immediate threat,” he said, adding that Moscow has a geopolitical forecast for 2026-2035 with an assessment of the consequences until 2045.
“If the war [in Ukraine] continues for another 5-10 years, Russia will never be able to catch up and be on par with the United States and China.” It shows the importance of Ukraine in new approaches to the European security system.
A recent report by the Danish Defense Intelligence Agency warned of the potential for a large-scale war in Europe within five years if the war in Ukraine ends and NATO fails to rearm.
