From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1133)
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:24-26
This verse was the devotion verse for our staff meeting earlier this week. Oh, how else can we survive without God being our strength? And how grateful I am for God’s grace, which brought me to our school and sustains me every day.
These kids bring me so much joy and hope that my heart is overflowing!
In March, our kids stayed screen-free and read to raise money for the organization that helps the people affected by the war. Knowing that you can make a difference and help your country motivated them more than anything! They also motivated and kept each other accountable, starting and finishing a day with a book. Their personal goal was to read every day for 50 minutes, but most of my 4th-graders exceeded this goal, and their class finished the month at 218% of their goal (and the school overall finished at 151%)!
Yes, these kids grow up in the most adverse circumstances. They didn’t choose this childhood, yet I am increasingly reassured that God will (and is already) use them for His glory. They are driven and passionate, and know that values cannot be traded; they are fought for and defended at a high cost.
Thank you so much for sponsoring them, encouraging them, and cheering them on! You are part of their victory!
Whenever my flesh and heart fail, God faithfully encourages me through these kids.
If you are also encouraged by these young hearts, you are welcome to sponsor their reading minutes because so many of them went beyond any expectations.
To God be all the glory!
