When Russian missiles tore through the Ukrainian city of Sumy, killing 35 civilians and wounding more than 120, the world waited for a unified outcry. It got nothing from Washington. And it wasn’t the first time. Under Donald Trump’s leadership, the U.S. has repeatedly looked away, stayed silent, or softened its stance when the Kremlin left a trail of bodies behind.

“I was told they made a mistake,” President Donald Trump said aboard Air Force One, referring to Russia’s April 13 ballistic missile strike. “I think it was horrible… I think the whole war is a terrible thing.”

No mention of the victims on a city trolleybus.
No condemnation of the Kremlin.
No spine.

A pattern of silence

Behind closed doors, Trump’s administration did more than just look away. It actively blocked a G7 statement condemning the Sumy strike, Bloomberg reported, claiming it wanted to “preserve space for peace talks” with Moscow.

This wasn’t diplomacy. It was complicity wrapped in cowardice.
