Meeting with people in the States for just a couple of days, and we already heard all the predictable questions:
• Do ruzzian speakers want to be part of ruzzia?
• Didn’t Crimea belong to ruzzia in the past?
• Why isn’t Zelensky holding elections?
• Why is Ukraine not signing a “peace” deal?
• Did Zelensky steal American aid?
But the one that cut the deepest was this: “How much is Ukraine willing to sacrifice for peace?”
Are you willing to sacrifice territory?
People don’t seem to comprehend: it’s not just territory Ukraine is being asked to “sacrifice.”
It’s millions of people — real people — who live there, who are desperately waiting for liberation from brutal occupation. It’s the homes, dreams, futures of millions who are now displaced or forced into exile.
What is Ukraine willing to sacrifice?
Our defenders have already been willing to sacrifice their lives — for our freedom, our children’s future, and for real peace.
Sacrificing territory to an aggressor will not bring peace. It will enable and encourage putin to rebuild his struggling army and come back for more — just as he always has.
The real question isn’t “what should Ukraine sacrifice.”
The real questions are:
• How can we force ruzzia to see that the price of war is too high? (Through truly suffocating sanctions.)
• What reparations must ruzzia pay for the destruction it caused? (By transferring frozen ruzzian assets to Ukraine.)
• How do we put putin and his generals on trial for war crimes?
• How do we make sure ruzzia can never restore the military threat Ukrainians have courageously dismantled?
Stop asking Ukraine what we are willing to give up. Start asking how the world will finally hold ruzzia accountable
