What does it mean to “brainwash” or erase a child’s identity? It’s happening right now in russian-occupied parts of Ukraine, where children are being forced to abandon their language, culture, and memories.
For over two decades, cities across Ukraine celebrated Europe Day in early May, joining the rest of the democratic world. But in places like Bakhmut, Lysychansk, and Mariupol — now under russian control — those celebrations have vanished.
The most painful part? The children. Once joyful and smiling, they now live in fear and isolation. They can’t escape. Putin’s regime is trying to turn them into soldiers.
By age 12, they’re being taught to assemble rifles and march in formation. More than 1.6 million children in occupied territories are being treated as a resource for the Kremlin.
We must stop this. Every child deserves a future.
