5/23/2025 — “For the Lord will vindicate his peopleand have compassion on his servants.”

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1184)

For the Lord will vindicate his people
and have compassion on his servants.
Psalm 135:14

We are busy preparing for the final tests and practicing for the Spelling Bee. The teachers are planning fun projects for the last week of school and making mental notes for the next school year. We’re waiting for the summer, making plans, and dreaming big dreams for our future.

That’s what I choose to focus on. That’s what gives me strength to get out of bed every morning. Yet all of that is drained from me when I check the news. I immediately feel unbearable fatigue and anxiety. Russia is gathering more troops along the border, planning new assault operations on Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia, and the news reports of great conversations between the US and russian presidents and possible big joint business projects instead of sanctions. Money does not smell even if it is blood-soaked, I guess.

That’s why it’s so hard for me to write my daily posts. I run away from the evil, immoral world of big business into our school world, the place where I can actually make a difference. I pray that this generation of children grows up to be men and women of value after God’s heart who bring hope and restoration not just for Ukraine but for all the corners of our broken world.
