5/27/2025 — The whole creation suffers from this war…. Siding with russia can bring only shame, and I pray for a wakeup call.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1187)

O daughter of Babylon, doomed to be destroyed,
blessed shall he be who repays you
with what you have done to us!
Psalm 137:8

Last night was loud again. More drones and ballistic missiles. A whole street in a small suburban town on the other side of Kyiv was destroyed. I woke up from the sound of missiles whizzing over grandma’s village. I knew they were not coming at us, but I knew they were carrying death and destruction to someone else.

I can’t say we’re used to it, but it’s not debilitating anymore. However, yesterday, I lost it when I read about a mother stork killed by drone debris in her nest. She threw herself over her babies and saved their lives. Zoo volunteers rescued the birds and are taking care of them. The whole creation suffers from this war.

There are swarms of drones coming at Ukraine right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if missiles join the drones to give us one more sleepless night. They want it to be their display of power. Unfortunately, their desperate bluff seems to be paralyzing those who can put pressure on russia, impose sanctions, and tell them to stop. Or perhaps they really believe that’s what wanting peace looks like. Siding with russia can bring only shame, and I pray for a wakeup call.

It’s Kyiv city’s celebration day. Kyiv has survived numerous attacks throughout its more than 1,000-year history, and it will keep on standing after our enemies vanish like dew in the sun.
