5/28/2025 — Search me, O God, and know my heart!

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1189)

Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Psalm 139:23-24

God is good.

It’s the week of final exams for my students. I feel like I was more worried about it than they were. I knew they were ready for the test and wanted them to do their best.
With the recent attacks, I knew that tests are the last thing our children need, but life does not stand still.

Last night, I prayed for my students to have a good night’s sleep without any air raids. I wanted them to be well-rested. I praised God when I woke up today in my bed, which means that the night was uneventful.
Then, as my students started their exam, I was praying that it wouldn’t get interrupted by the air raid. As my 4th-graders started working, I saw a notification on my phone that an air raid would be announced shortly. “God, please, no!” I pleaded. Walking to the basement and continuing the test there doesn’t really help anyone’s focus. When I checked my phone for the actual alert a minute later, I saw a message that the previous notification was false.

My students were able to finish their English exam. Each of them tried their best, and I couldn’t be happier. However, this faithfulness and grace of God in such a seemingly simple thing made my day and gave me hope.

We still have about 10 days of school left. My students will have more tests, fun projects, field trips, and memory-making experiences. Please pray that air raids will not be a part of this precious time.
