From: Kyiv Independent — When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Melitopol fell under occupation early on. In the face of chaos, churches became more than places of worship — they became centers of stability and support. Locals gathered for daily prayers for Ukraine in the city’s central square.
Russia responded with repression. Clergy were searched, detained, and interrogated.
In the Kyiv Independent’s investigative documentary, No God but Theirs, clergymen from churches banned under Russian occupation share their stories of repression. Their testimonies expose Russia’s systematic terror inflicted on Ukrainian Christian communities in Melitopol.
