From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1199)
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
he adorns the humble with salvation.
Psalm 149:4
Last night was scary. A few people repeated my thoughts that this was the worst attack so far.
They launched over 400 drones. There were also 45 cruise and ballistic missiles. I lost track of the number of explosions we heard, but I kept telling myself that at least it was our air defense.
The scariest part for me was when I read that new waves of cruise missiles were targeting western Ukraine and thought, “I don’t care where they go as long as it’s not here.” This selfish honesty without an attempt at modesty made me shiver.
We all felt drained after a sleepless night, but there are reasons to praise God:
– our family is safe despite some “close hits”
– our air defense shot down 90% of whatever was coming at us. It’s an incredible number compared to the intensity of the attack
– our elementary school students got to go on their field trips today without the air raids.
As we (over 20 kids and several teachers) were waiting for the bus and trying to keep our balance while on it, I expected people to be annoyed with our loud group, but most of them were smiling instead. It felt like we had their approval because we tried to live no matter what.
That’s why Ukraine will win!
