Vitalii Dribnytsia, a 59-year-old retired history teacher from Bila Tserkva in Kyiv Oblast, has captured international attention – not for controversy, but for his quiet persistence in countering Russian propaganda online. A co-author of Ukrainian school textbooks and the creator of the YouTube channel Vox Veritatis (Voice of Truth), Dribnytsia has spent the past three years engaging Russian audiences on the Chatroulette video platform.

Almost daily, Dribnytsia logs on to Chatroulette, where he speaks with Russians for hours at a time. His method is simple but consistent: he challenges widely held beliefs rooted in Russian state narratives using documented historical evidence. Among the claims he regularly disputes are that Ukraine was invented by the Soviet Union, that its leadership promotes neo-Nazi ideology, and that the Ukrainian language is merely a dialect of Russian.

Despite encountering hostility and what he describes as “zombified” responses, Dribnytsia remains composed. He refrains from inflammatory exchanges, instead responding with historical data, citing primary sources, maps, archival documents, and timelines. His approach is met with a range of reactions: silence, hesitation, and, on occasion, a quiet acknowledgment -“I didn’t know that.”

Dribnytsia records and posts many of these conversations to Vox Veritatis on YouTube, which now has 470,000 subscribers and over 200 million views. His audience includes not only Russians but also Ukrainians seeking to strengthen their understanding of national history and to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty through historical argumentation.

Vitalii Dribnytsia has been featured in The New York Times and named a top 50 blogger by Focus magazine in 2024.
