6/18/2025 — Lord, help us always choose your justice and love!

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1210)

O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
you will strengthen their heart;
you will incline your ear
to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.
Psalm 10:17-18

It was another scary night. God was merciful, so I slept through the worst part of it, but woke up around 4 am and could hear everything that followed.

The UN has already qualified it as one of the deadliest attacks on Kyiv. As of now, 16 people are dead, and 135 were injured.
A missile destroyed a whole entrance of an apartment building. It went through all the floors and into the basement.
A drone flew right into another apartment building.
I read that the dorm where I lived during my first two years in university lost most of its windows during my attack.
My hairdresser, whom I visited a couple of weeks ago, posted a video of the broken window in her salon.

Even though it’s summer break, several teachers came to school today because staying home felt unbearable.

On our way to school, we saw a pillar of dark smoke going up. My son’s immediate questions were, “What is it?” followed by, “Is there a way for us to help?” His response brought tears to my eyes. It was such a stark difference from the indifference we saw and the comment that sanctions on russia cost too much money. Thank God, an 11-year-old kid can see things deeper than world leaders.

I saw a post with a supposed conversation between two rabbis as they were waiting for their execution in a nazi concentration camp. One says, “That’s the worst that could have happened to us.” The other responds, “No, it could be worse. We could have been one of them.”

Lord, help us always choose your justice and love!
