Roman Kohut, a native of Yavoriv in Lviv Oblast, has transitioned from military service to craftsmanship, turning a long-standing personal interest into a full-time pursuit. After serving in Ukraine’s combat zone from 2022 to 2023, Kohut returned home and decided to start a small business producing traditional wooden toys.

Drawing on local carpentry traditions and techniques, Kohut designs and handcrafts each toy in his home workshop. His products include carved animals, wheeled figurines, and puzzle blocks, often made from locally sourced wood such as beech or oak. Each piece is shaped, sanded, and assembled by hand, using non-toxic finishes suitable for children.

Kohut began woodworking before the full-scale invasion, but military service put his hobby on hold. Upon returning to civilian life, he saw woodworking as a way to restore focus and preserve regional craft traditions.

For veterans like Kohut, reentering civilian life involves more than just finding employment. His workshop has become a space for routine, creativity, and connection with the community.
