6/30/2025 — In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1222 posted early on day 1223)

In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them.
Psalm 22:4

The night when we heard the drones was one of the worst attacks on Ukraine, yet surprisingly, it was one of the calmer nights for Kyiv.

They sent 477 drones and 60 missiles of various kinds. Our air defense neutralized 475 aerial threats. The west of Ukraine was their main target.

That night, I fell asleep to the sound of drones flying over us, but woke up about an hour later to the sound of them being shot at. I listened for a bit, checked the news, saw that the missiles are headed west, thought to myself, “Thank God, it’s not our turn today,” rolled over, and went back to sleep.
This last part always scares me a little. I don’t want my heart to be so calloused that I don’t care about the suffering of others, but I also realize that I often have nothing left in me to do more.

During the attack, they did hit some important industrial objects in the Poltava and Lviv regions.

The picture that hit me the most was of the dogs rescued from under the rubble in the Poltava region. When death is all around, our emergency rescuers take the time to save the animals. Some may say it’s too much. But isn’t it what God’s love is about?
