7/5/2025 — As you celebrate America’s Independence Day, don’t look away from the suffering of those who fight for their independence

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1227)

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1

Last night felt like hell for Kyiv. The city was covered with smoke from fire in up to 40 locations. Most of the 539 drones and 11 missiles were aimed at Kyiv. That’s their new tactic – focusing on one city and overwhelming its air defense. The attack started right after President Trump’s conversation with the russian terrorist. It feels like a slap in America’s face, especially on the eve of its Independence Day. Kyiv got its share of “fireworks” last night, and another air raid is in progress right now, so the “show” goes on.

These massive attacks are always planned. They are always intended to break our spirit. This specific attack is meant to highlight the recent halt on the provision of military aid to Ukraine by the USA, and it is meant to create animosity between our nations. However, we can see beyond it. We can see hundreds and thousands (if not millions) of Americans who pray and advocate for Ukraine daily by spreading the truth and contacting their government representatives and urging them to support Ukraine. We remember dozens of American citizens who voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine in active combat and gave their lives in our fight for our independence. We remember the US politicians and officials who actively resist russia and promote cooperation with Ukraine. We appreciate the efforts of the American military instructors who train our defenders. We are grateful to all the American taxpayers whose funds have been used to provide crucial humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine and offer a refuge to those who had to flee our country. We appreciate the provision of lethal weapons that help our soldiers fight off those who bring death and devastation to our land and prevent them from bringing it to other European countries. We appreciate the relationship between our countries that has developed throughout history, when we could learn important lessons as a developing democracy, and our immigrants did their best to improve your country. We cherish it all and pray for America to be guided by the Lord’s truth, for He is the only one who can make nations great or destroy them (Job 12:23).

As you celebrate America’s Independence Day, don’t look away from the suffering of those who fight for their independence.
