⚡ Ukraine currently estimates nearly €180 billion in environmental damage to the country caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion, according to Svitlana Hrynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
To date, over 9,000 documented cases of environmental harm have been officially recorded. These include the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, oil spills in the Black Sea, and severe damage to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
▪️As a result of military actions, more than 230 million tonnes of carbon dioxide have been released into the atmosphere. This number continues to grow with every explosion and every passing day.
▪️Almost 23% of Ukraine’s territory remains contaminated with landmines.
▪️The damage to water infrastructure is estimated at over $736 million, while reconstruction costs could reach nearly $11 billion.
▪️The war has also triggered unusual patterns of animal migration, disrupting local ecosystems.
Ukraine has lost an estimated €10.6 trillion in its extractive sector due to the war.
