From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1240)
I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
Psalm 40:1
As I was meditating on Psalm 40 today, I got stuck on the first verse. The Lord heard my cry… Just as with Job, it’s not so much about God delivering us or explaining His reasons to us. It is about His hearing our cry and being there with us.
Being heard is a privilege and a blessing. Knowing that you are not alone. Knowing that there are people who will stand by your side. Solidarity is one of the most powerful things in this world. I had the blessing of experiencing this solidarity today during the Global Interfaith gathering dedicated to Ukraine. The Ukrainian religious leaders of different traditions were able to pour out their hearts and share the cry for just peace. Being able to share the truth with the world and reminding each other why faith, history, truth, forgiveness, and prayer matter gives us hope to be heard by fellow Christians around the globe. Together we can stand united against the evil that’s trying to spread.
During the meeting, the participants shared the Interfaith Declaration of Conscience and Solidarity with the People of Ukraine, and signatures are still being collected. I will share the link to the Declaration and more details from the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations in the comments.
This event may be overlooked by the news and deemed insignificant by politicians, but I pray it will be one of the pebbles that brings the gigantic idol down.
As for me, I am poor and needy,
but the Lord takes thought for me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
do not delay, O my God!
Psalm 40:17
