MP Fedir Venislavskyi, Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security member, explained Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s bid to receive Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Moscow in an interview with Radio NV on Aug. 20.

Russia’s Vladimir Putin proposed hosting Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Moscow in a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, AFP reported, citing a knowledgeable source, on Aug. 19.

According to the New York Times, Putin also floated a Moscow-based trilateral with the U.S. and Ukraine, an idea Trump “politely declined.”

While the overture made headlines, Politico noted participants in the Aug. 18 White House talks did not treat it seriously — unsurprising, Kyiv said, given the Kremlin’s repeated attempts to assassinate Zelenskyy.

Venislavskyi weighed in to explain what the overture really signaled.

“Yesterday and this morning I read both the international and Ukrainian press. Putin claimed that he is ready to receive President Zelensky in Moscow already,” he said.
