From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1277)
You are the God who works wonders;
you have made known your might among the peoples.
Psalm 77:14
The days fly by as I try to finish school preparation and catch up on some quality time with my family during the last days of summer break. In this whirlwind of business, I was almost caught by surprise by our national holidays — the National Flag Day and the Independence Day.
We started noticing (and honoring) our flag when we realized its value when we almost lost it in 2013-2014. Since then, our flag has been a risky possession in the occupied territories and a banner of hope and safety for those returning from captivity. It marks the high price paid for it now and was paid in the decades of the struggle for Independence.
Out of 34 years of Ukraine’s independence, 11 were spent resisting the russian aggression. However, when you think about the centuries of Ukraine’s history and the time spent under the oppression of the empires of the time, you realize how precious and fragile independence is. If your country has Independence and does not need to defend it with arms, don’t ever take it for granted.
We are tense in anticipation of the terrorist attacks around Independence Day. There have been no major attacks on Kyiv in the past three weeks, so we have no illusions and rely on God’s mercy.
Please join us in prayer for Ukraine on August 24th. Please pray for the following needs:
– For a just and lasting peace—that God would stop the war and that light would overcome darkness.
– For the protection of Christians in the occupied territories and for all those who minister under persecution.
– For the return of abducted children and healing for wounded families.
– For global support — so that the world does not grow weary of standing with Ukraine against evil.
– For the protection and defense of Ukrainian cities, villages, and people from bombing.
– For comfort for those who have lost loved ones and for emotional and spiritual restoration.
– For the wisdom and courage of world leaders in the fight against the dictatorial coalition of evil.
Let God’s glory shine in Ukraine!
