While Americans are fighting to hold onto democracy at home, Ukraine is still fighting for survival under relentless Russian missile and drone strikes — Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and cities across the country hit again last night. At the same time, Ukraine is striking back, reaching deep into Russian territory and occupied Crimea with precision drone and missile attacks that are rattling Moscow itself. And in the middle of this, Putin is once again playing his most dangerous card: nuclear blackmail, space-based threats, and escalating tension across Europe.
At a meeting with his Security Council, Putin returned to his old playbook: nuclear blackmail. He warned the West that Russia would not answer threats with words but with “military-technical measures,” lifting the self-imposed moratorium on deploying intermediate-range missiles.
He accused the U.S. of killing arms control dialogue, all while claiming Russia won’t withdraw from New START — but only so long as it suits him. After February 5, 2026, he says, Moscow will “decide whether to maintain these voluntary self-restraints.” In other words, the leash is off, and the world is on notice.
Then came his warning about Trump’s so-called “Golden Dome” project — a plan to launch space-based weapons under the cover of missile defense. Putin knows what it means if America militarizes space: his strategic leverage vanishes. That’s why he threatened “appropriate responses,” reminding the world that Russia views satellites not as tools of defense, but as potential targets.
