10/18/2025 — Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1332)

Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth,
yet they have not prevailed against me.
Psalm 129:2

The school days blend into one in the whirlwind of all the battles, struggles, and anxieties.

We’ve had several power outages this week, but thankfully, they were relatively short (up to 2 hours) and didn’t happen at school. While I know that we are prepared for the possible blackout, I feel my body reacting to the memories of the 2022-2023 blackouts.
I feel my body reacting to the news, so I try to get just a short summary of the day, especially since it feels like no significant changes are expected in the foreseeable future. However, the news reports possible major attacks on our power grid, and I feel a headache spreading even as I read it.

However, in all of this, I remind myself to hold on to God’s character and His truth. I remind myself to count the many blessings we have. The days getting shorter is one of my yearly challenges, but this week it turned out to be a blessing as my son was getting ready extra fast in the morning to see if we could leave home before sunrise. And even the very ability to go to school and stay in classes and not in the basement is an incredible blessing that many kids in Ukraine miss.

Lord, help us see our blessings and keep a grateful heart.
