The Ukrainian villages of Kolochava and Synevyrska Polyana in the Zakarpattia region have been included among the world’s 52 best villages for tourism, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on Oct. 20.

A total of 270 villages from 65 countries were evaluated across nine criteria, including cultural and natural resources, healthcare, safety and security, as well as economic, environmental, and social sustainability.

Ukraine’s State Agency for Tourism Development said the Best Tourism Villages program recognizes rural destinations that use tourism to promote sustainable development, preserve culture, and improve the quality of life for local residents.

“The fact that two Ukrainian villages were included among the world’s best tourism villages is proof that even during wartime, Ukraine remains open, welcoming, and fascinating. This recognition reflects the joint efforts of communities, businesses, and everyone developing tourism as a path toward resilience and the revival of Ukrainian villages,” said Nataliia Tabaka, head of the agency.
