Let’s be honest, none of us has it together all the time. We have different challenges depending on the stage of life, but health issues, job uncertainties, family matters always affect us. Well, war definitely adds to it. All of your foundations are tested. And when you think you have it figured out, a new thing comes up.
I’m not speaking about something specific or something from this week. It’s been our state of being for the past four years, or even longer. And it’s everywhere. You have a struggling student, and you immediately start wondering how their family is doing, did they have to be displaced, is their dad with them or serving in the army, did they sleep at night during the attacks… And the questions just keep on coming.
The rolling blackouts are back, joining the rest of the stress factors. And I cannot say we are suffering. The power outages last up to 4 hours (and Kyiv is said to be affected the most). We have a more than decent supply of candles and ramen noodles, along with other instant food. We still have water, and there’s even a promise of the possibility of having heat this winter. Yet these blackouts add the tension we could do without. It’s the need to plan ahead and cook while you have electricity to have reheatable options for when you don’t. It’s about planning alternatives for the lessons in case your perfect plan goes missing, along with the electricity. It’s about yet another reminder that you are not allowed to relax.
There’s a warning about the possibility of a massive combined aerial attack this night, as strategic bombers have been relocated to their traditional attack airfields. We’ll see what the Lord has in store for us.
May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown,
our daughters like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace;
may our granaries be full, providing all kinds of produce;
may our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields;
may our cattle be heavy with young, suffering no mishap or failure in bearing;
may there be no cry of distress in our streets!
