11/17/2025 — “O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart…”

The map shows the estimated route of the drones and missiles and the sites of the attack.

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1360)

O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
you will strengthen their heart;
you will incline your ear
to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.
Psalm 10:17-18

We are at grandma’s for a few days, so it’s our chance to relax and not think about air raids because we are in a relatively safe location far from any objects of strategic importance.
Last night, as I was going to bed, I heard the kamikaze drones flying not too far from Grandma’s house. They sound like a motorcycle engine flying in the skies. I knew it was just the beginning of a sleepless night in Kyiv. The drones were joined by ballistic missiles. This kind of weapon leaves you mere minutes if not seconds to react, and it’s been russia’s favorite lately.

Out of 430 drones and 19 missiles of different kinds, our air defense took down 405 drones and 14 missiles. However, the morning news reported damage in all Kyiv city districts and several apartment buildings receiving a direct hit. As of now, six people are reported killed.

A couple in their 70s was crushed in their bed by a collapsed ceiling.

A first responder was assigned to extinguish the fire in his own apartment after a direct drone strike. He stood in the middle of what had once been their home. Thankfully, his wife and their young kids (a 5-year-old and an 8-month-old) went to the shelter in advance.

A 10-year-old boy tells about his neighbors who were killed in the attack and how he was worried about the safety of his cat and dog.

Surreal images. Horrible ugliness of the war. Our only hope is in the Lord.
