11/26/2025 — “Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief…”

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 1371)

Though they plan evil against you,
though they devise mischief,
they will not succeed.
Psalm 21:11

Going to bed last night, we knew a missile attack was expected. The air raid alert pulled us out of bed at around 1 a.m. For about two hours, we heard explosions from ballistic missiles and drones. When it felt like it was over, many people went back to their beds only to be pulled out again around 5 a.m. And that was the second round of loud explosion from drones and ballistic missiles. Seven people were killed, and several apartment buildings were damaged.

I don’t know how to explain this feeling. This morning, I read someone’s comment, “If we’re not killed during the attack, we go to work and live ordinary lives.” And it felt accurate. We came to school half an hour late and started the day with worship with my students.

Tonight, we went to the movie theater to watch a recently released Ukrainian movie. Even though it’s a post-apocalyptic comic drama (I know that description sounds weird), we left with a surprisingly uplifted spirit. Because the main idea of the movie is that you need to live with a purpose no matter the circumstances. And that’s what we are determined to do.
