March 2, 2022 – Carpathian Mountains of W. Ukraine

From Anya, young pregnant mother, church member and University worker from Kharkov, now in the Carpathian mountains of W. Ukraine: “On Thursday the 4th my husband and I woke up at 5 am from the sounds of explosions. As I am in the 5th month of pregnancy we decided not to stay any longer in Kyiv and left the capital by car. The traffic jams were so huge that we only got to this small town in the Carpathian mountains in 48 hours (500 miles). We are right near the border with Romania. We don’t want to leave this tiny town unless it gets really dangerous as we see how much work there is here to help other refugees, encourage people who are in a fear and speak with them about the Lord. We already got acquainted with some non-Christian families, who also escaped from Kyiv, and build relationships with them. One small Gypsy church is taking wonderful care of us and we try here to help them with the other refugees and wherever they need us. More and more people are coming here. Through our University ministry we are also helping students and others 24/7 to evacuate from Eastern Ukraine, settle in the Western part, or cross the border.
“The situation in Kyiv and Kharkiv is horrible. A lot or houses are bombed. Some of our friends from our Presbyterian churches are still there and can’t evacuate for various reasons. There is almost no gasoline there, not a lot of groceries are left.
“Please, pray for:
1. My family still in Kharkiv. They can’t evacuate. My husband’s parents are in a safe place, but yesterday was a really hard day, and today is not easier. They have been living almost a week now, spending most of the day in a shelter with dozens of others. Pray for their repentance and safety. They pray a lot now and promised to come to church after the war is finished.
2. For our baby girl. I am in a huge amount of stress all day long. We just pray that Lord will keep her healthy and alive inside of me in these circumstances.
3. Wisdom and vision on how God wants to use us here in this town and in this church serving other refugees.”

  5. Ps 138 …though the LORD is high, yet He hasrespect unto the lowly but the proud He knows from afar. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me. You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies and Your right hand will save me. The LORD will perfect that which concerns me: Your mercy O LORD endures forever. Forsake not the worksof Your own hands!
