3/27/2022 – Kyiv: A prayer for Ukraine from Pastor Ivan

Dear Friends, Over a month has passed since the war broke out in Ukraine. On this Lord’s Day we pray the following prayer. Join us, if you will:  Our Heavenly Father!

We are thankful to You that we belong in body and soul, in life and in death, not to ourselves, but to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We thank you that He has rescued us from the power of the devil and that not one hair can fall from our heads without the will of our Heavenly Father.

We thank you for our salvation and for eternal life.

We praise you, God, for your majesty and for your sovereign power over everything that happens, and that nothing can slip out from under your absolute control. We also know that in the end, everything that is happening, even this horrific war, is in some mysterious way works for our salvation and for your glory.

We believe, Father, that you hear our prayers and we ask that the horror of this war in our dear Ukraine would end. So many people have died, so many Ukrainians have given their lives and health for the freedom and independence of our people, and so many cities have been destroyed.

We call on you, Father, together with millions of Ukrainians and believers in all the world, to stop this war to bring the culprits to justice. We pray to you for their repentance for the crimes committed against the nation of Ukraine and against Your commandments.

We also pray for the leadership of Ukraine, for our president and military leaders. Give them wisdom, courage, and fear before You in the making of important decisions about organising defences and protection of the lives of Ukrainians.

Father, protect the lives of those in our armed forces, and also the men and women serving in the territorial defence. Fulfil all their physical and spiritual needs wherever they might be.

We fervently pray for the lives of the civilian populations in the besieged cities and of refugees, who have been scattered around the country by this war.

God, protect our wonderful and beautiful city of Kyiv and all her residents from the bombings and massive attacks.

Lord, our special prayer is for the Presbyterian, Reformed and evangelical churches in Kyiv and across Ukraine. We ask you, Father, help us to carry the light of Your Gospel in this uncertain time. Help us to share our hope in Christ with everyone and may we not grow weary of doing good to our neighbours, especially to those who are now in need.

Bless the members of our church, who are now serving in Ukraine’s armed forces, in territorial defence groups, and among other volunteers. Help them to remain a light for this world and salt for this land, wherever they may be.

We also thank You for the brother and sister churches in all the world that are praying now for peace in Ukraine and are providing tremendous help and support.

Thank you, God, for the unity that we have in Christ and the encouragement that we receive from brothers and sisters in other countries. Help us, God, to remain faithful to you and to serve you in Spirit and in Truth in times of both peace and times of war, which we believe will soon end.

In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!

Yours in Christ,

Ivan

Kyiv, Ukraine.

  1. Amen! Thank you for your example of Thanksgiving to God in the midst of sorrow and pain. Praying for an end to this war but also praying that God will use His people in a mighty way.
